Objective:
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (SGP), within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), provides civil society organizations with technical and financial support to implement projects addressing global environmental challenges through local action. Under its new funding cycle, the SGP invites interested NGOs, CBOs, village councils, academic or activist groups to submit project proposals within the following thematic areas:
- Community-based conservation of threatened ecosystems and species
- Sustainable agriculture and fisheries, and food security
- Low-carbon energy access co-benefits
- Local to global coalitions for chemicals and waste management
- Water conservation
Eligibility criteria:
Eligible applicants include NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), village councils, academic institutions, and activist groups. Grant requests must have maximum community reach and demonstrate sustainability. Applications must be aligned with the SGP Country Programme Strategy in the applicant’s country.
Countries concerned:
Implemented in countries participating in the GEF Small Grants Programme (ODA-eligible developing countries). Organizations based in non-SGP countries, such as France, may participate only through partnerships with local organizations registered in an SGP country.
Project duration:
Up to two years.
Grant amount:
- Planning grant: up to USD 5,000
- Full grant: up to USD 50,000 (available to CSOs or formal partnerships between CSOs and enterprises)
